Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to save and rescue Yorkshire Terriers however, we
do welcome any small breed dog that is needing a loving home. We
want to put our mark on saving and re-homing the needy dogs who
have been abandoned by their owners to live out their lives in a
shelter. We will lovingly accept any small dog who needs to be
surrendered by their owner to keep them out of the shelters. We
have also made it our mission to rescue, vet and socialize any small
dog who needs to be saved from a puppy mill.
We are dedicated to locating, getting medical care, rehabilitating, fostering
and finding forever homes for these dogs. We can do it one dog at a time.
Small Breed Rescue of Kentucky has no paid employees, each member is
a precious volunteer.
Who We Are

We at Small Breed Rescue of Kentucky are working towards gaining our
501(c)(3) non-profit status. We are an Internet based rescue that rescues
the Yorkshire Terrier but other small breed dogs are welcome, especially
the Puppy Mill dog. Head quartered in South Central KY, we have
volunteers and foster homes all across the United States. Here at
www.sbrky.com we do what we can to stamp out Puppy Mills,  locate,
rehabilitate and find forever homes for these small pure breed dogs.
A note from the owner: I have always had a love for the Yorkshire Terrier
and it was while looking online for one who might be in rescue that I
discovered the words "puppy mill". I had seen them (puppy mills) but did
not know what they were called. Pure breed dogs, including my beloved
Yorkshire Terrier are the victims of human greed. It is just that simple.

Did you pay a very high price for your registered pure bred puppy in a pet
store? Were you drawn to the sweet looking tiny ball of fur shyly sitting
alone behind the glass? Did you fail to notice the dull eyes, the lack lustre
coat, the way your future pet hung back from the front of the cage? When
you got the pure bred dog home were surprised at the expense at the vets
office. This tiny puppy came from what I now know is a puppy mill.

The Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Chihuahua, MinPin, Maltese, to name
a few....are all popular breeds and the public demands them to be smaller
and smaller.  These cute puppies have mothers who are not cute, though
they could be very. No, the mothers and fathers are held in slavery to the
millers. They live out their lives in cages not big enough to turn around in
sometimes and all they are there to do is produce one litter after another
to line the pockets of the millers. Dogs are bred until they are 10 years old
or for as long as they will produce a profit making pups. They are given no
medical care, never enough food and if they don't produce...I cannot bear
to think of it.

Because I now know what I know about puppy mills, sometimes called
puppy farms, I have dedicated myself to the fight against them. I created
this site and the rescue itself because of a puppy mill dog. I love The
Yorkshire Terrier. My first was a puppy mill dog. They are many and I am
but one, but.....someone said it much better than I can and it is a quote I
try to live by. I wish everyone could.

"I am only one, but I am one. I can not do everything, but I can do
                something." Bishop Barbara Clementine Harris

What We Do

Small Breed Rescue of Kentucky has the dogs given medical attention,
foster them, socialize them and find forever homes for these homeless
Small Breed dogs or ex Puppy Mill Dogs. No dog will be adopted without
having been spayed or neutered. A Vet check and reference check is
required in order to adopt from us.

We have no paid employees and are a group of dedicated volunteers who
are dependant upon donations to pay for the efforts to rescue and
re-home these sweet dogs.  Visit our web site store and see what we have
to offer for a donation to help pay for the medical needs of our rescues.
We gladly accept PayPal.

At www.sbrky.com we have a special place in our hearts for puppy mill
dogs. You will often see puppy mill dogs for adoption on our site. Please
