Corky is a 6 year old male Yorkie. He is the sweetiest little
boy around. He is working on his house training and doing
well. He will be UTD with his shots, on HW preventive, and
neutered before adoption is final. Corky had his jaw broken
as a baby and his tongue hangs out. But his tongue has
always hung out. He eats by turning his head sideways and
scooping up his food. He will need to be fed on a pad
because he cannot turn his head sideways in a bowl. He is
very loving and shy. He weighs 6 pounds.
He was very scared at the dogtor's but he follows me
everywhere. He is being fostered in Kentucky.
If you think you can give this very sweet boy a loving home

love to have a family of his own for the first time in his life!

The gentlest Angel that lives with me...
|
There is an Angel and he lives with me. He is gentle, yet protective. He
apologizes for being in the world, yet he brings gentle joy by his being here. He
peeks shyly from behind furniture or around doors, but he is always near by....
my little guardian angel.
He was born in Kentucky on April 5, 1999. He was perfect. He was a Yorkshire
Terrier that was beautiful in every way. He was adventurous and full of life and
the joy of living. He was full of love even as he is today. He was very smart. But
because of this beauty he was sold at auction to the highest bidder.
He came to his new home so tiny, away from his mom for the first time. What is
this lady like, he must have thought and where am I going? Where is my mama?
And when he arrived he who loves to run and roll in the grass, had to have
thought he'd found heaven. He could hear the sounds of other Yorkies, but they
sounded odd. They were not happy barks. They were angry, confused and
grumbly sounds he heard. But he was not alone so he was going to make friends
... he just knew it! He saw the fields and yearned to run and play with his new
friends. But this was not to be. The sharp rocks and funny feeling floor made his
little feet hurt. He found one friend and he followed close behind everywhere he
was allowed to go. He was too little to open the door to the bedroom because
the spring was very strong and closed with a sharp clap, so he followed when his
friend went in so he would not be out in the sun and so very hot during the day.
That was where the shade was....that was where the food was.
What is this thing that keeps me from going to run in all that soft sweet smelling
stuff? His friend said, "That is wire. You can not cross it." But he did. He was
very small and he found a hole in the thing called wire. He would get out every
morning and try to make friends with the wonderful creature who brought food
sometimes when he was very, very hungry. He would run up to them and greet
them and for some reason they'd use a loud voice and he would sail through the
air back inside the thing called wire. Sometimes a foot would come and force
him to go far back from the person and the food. His friend told him to stay back
because sometimes the foot hurt little dogs like him. So he waited until someone
was going into the bed and he followed as quick as he could. But this time he
was not fast enough. He was hungry and did not seem to have as much speed
as he had and the door came crashing shut on his head.
Oh the pain! He was blind but he saw flashing light and could not even cry out
because he mouth would not move! He tried to cry out for help, but no sound
came. The pain did not end day after day. He was so thirsty. He could see the
dirty water and he crawled and crawled until he was there. He drank very little
because his mouth and tongue did not work any more. He fell over...his tongue
touched the wonderful water and he pulled it back into his thirsty mouth as far as
he could and it began to trickle down his parched throat. But hunger and pain
were now his only company. He longed for his mama and the comfort of her
breast and loving care. She told him so many times how he was beautiful and
smart and her best baby boy ever. She had told him that humans were his friend
and that one day he'd have his very own home and something called a family.
This place he came...was this home? Were these humans his family? How could
she have thought he would like this? I wish the pain would stop. I wish I could eat,
I'm so hungry....
There was some soft food right before him and a soothing voice of a stranger.
Would this stranger kick him with his foot? Better be still and wait to see. The
stranger is gone so the littlest angel put his tongue on the soft food. He could pull
it into his mouth like the water! It was good. He felt a little stronger. He stood and
walked. He slept, he drank, he even ate sometimes. He grew stronger and the
pain was less. He ventured out into the gravel space one again and no one knew
him. He found the hole he'd found in the wire and got out into the soft sweet
smelling stuff someone called grass once more. He tried to greet the human who
brought the food but it was always the same...he'd be put back inside the wire
again. He learned to run away from the human and they'd chase him. What a
wonderful game! He'd get out and they would come and chase him all over the
place and then he'd be back inside the wire. They said he was so cute with his
tongue hanging down the side of his head.
They did not see how he turned his head sideways to eat. They did not see the
big grown dogs fight with him and push him back from the food. They did not
hear his cries for help. They just went away. They found his hole and put strong
wood in to bar his door to the outside. Oh how he longed for the outside.... His
feet did not hurt so much in the outside.
Sometimes the girls would let him play with them. Sometimes they needed him to
play with them. Then they would be taken away and he was told he had Puppies.
Puppies! He would show them how to do everything! Yes, he'd guard them and
keep them safe. Where are the puppies? The ladies came back but he never saw
any puppies. But sometimes he'd hear a tiny little girl puppy crying softly in
another wire cage. He did not know her and would ask where is your mama? She
never knew. He stopped asking.
Days turned into weeks, weeks to months and months to years, but nothing
changed. It was always the same.
One day a human came and he went with many dogs from this place to
somewhere else. She asked about his tongue and the bad human told her that he
did not have teeth on that side and it had hung out that way since he was a little
baby. "Silly thing" he thought...he had all his teeth.
This human did not yell....did not kick little boys away and this human had soft
gentle hands and a voice that would sing. This human had soft grass inside the
pen! This human called it a yard. Wonderful grass! My goodness but his pen is
so big. And this human had something called treats and some new stuff they
called food! This human put the food into a flat thing and He could have all he
wanted. And he did.
Now he woke up when the new human stirred and would go cautiously towards
them. Got to be careful just in case the human had big feet and would start to use
an angry voice. But, you know, she never did. She liked for him to come and be
with her. She took him to see a dogtor. He got a stick from a needle and they
said it was for his safety and something called good health. He got something
called medicine for worms. What is a worm? His tummy felt better. He liked the
food. He loved the grass and something called toys! He could push them with his
nose and it would make a happy sound. Some of them were soft and he could
carry them!
He decided to make it his personal job to keep all harm from this new human. His
chest felt funny but in a very good way when she was around. He would not let
this human be harmed. He would let her know. So he carefully came to her when
she did not call out to him and bowed low to the ground and barely looked up into
her eyes as he came close. But when he did...the human could see all that he felt
shining in hes eyes and her face got all wet. She spoke softly and he thought that
maybe there was hope that she would not be offended by his presence and she
would allow this touching of her feet. Oh no! She is bending down. The pain will
come...
Singing....he hears singing. He opens his eyes and there is a soft touch. Oh, how
good this feels! He pushes his head into the side of the leg that is so near. He is
lifted up and this is very scary but there is no pain. For a very short time he is
held against the rhythm of the sound and it feels good. But the pain will be here
soon. So he struggles to be free. And he is gently freed. He hides for a minute or
two. The singing is still there. He must return.....he does...and he still hugs the
ground below his feet. This time there is only the soft stroke on his back and
nothing more. He is brave and he watches the other dogs there. They don't seem
to mind when this human picks them up. In fact they are kissing this human!
Maybe it will be ok.....
He tries again. He is lifted and put on a soft pillow next to the human and is
stroked and stroked. He falls asleep. He dreams of grass and running free. He
wakes and the human is still there and she talks to him. Then she says the word
outside and everyone is excited. They went outside....in all that grass and one of
the Yorkies says to him they must patrol the fence and protect the grass,
because it is theirs. He follows and sees this is a fun thing. This is a good thing.
He does this every day. One day he sees something that should not be there, it
has never been there before so he calls out the alarm and a warning... Suddenly
he has all the dogs with him warning off this new thing. The human comes and
says that is one rabbit that won't come back into our yard now will it! Then she
laughs She says good boy! He was so proud. He felt like a king and he held his
head up high for the first time in his life! He could strut! He had protected his
human from a thing called a rabbit. He could play and no one came and made
him stop or put him inside wire. He was told what a good boy he was and given
treats! He really liked treats. Sometimes the human has a wet face when he
gives her his floppy sloppy kisses. He really likes to be close to this one human.
Sometimes there are other humans and he is not sure of them so he will hide
until they go away. He can make himself very small still and stay close to a wall
and they don't see him .... so he is safe. He comes out and plays only with the
other dogs there and with the one human who loves him. Is this what love feels
like? He remembers his sweet mama telling him once a long time ago about
something called love. He sure likes that feeling.
Yes this little angel is our Corky. He is beginning to come into his own. He is
learning at a very slow pace. His pain is that deep....his emotional scars have
such sharp jagged edges. But he is fierce in his resolve to know love and gives it
so well and in abundance. His trust must be earned but once earned it is also
given completely. In this tiny battered and broken body there lives such a perfect
Yorkshire Terrier with a gentle soul and a huge heart. He is an angel who has
taught me so much ....about forgiving, about loving, about trusting....and about
life. He has begun the road back to sanity. I'm so glad to have this little angel with
me. All I can do is sigh with joy and such a full heart and help him when I can. He
makes me laugh, cry, sigh and sing! He can do anything.
I'm sorry this was so long. I just could not find the right words so I just took it
through his story. He has been the hardest to reach...but then he has been
through the most in this group. God bless you Corky! You will be safe here until it
is safe for you to be somewhere else. I don't care how long that may take. You
have just now found your voice and I hope you will find your wings!
Very much love from your Foster Mom,
